hello kitty? who's kitty anyway?

Its ridiculous to find snakes of queues everywhere you go in such a small city. I simply cannot comprehend the appeal of the dumb looking cat (or kitten, whatever!?!)

  1. which is too small to hug (or maybe I'm too 'big' to hug it)
  2. S$4.50 for something so small!

Okay, I admit I am not a big fan of THE 'Cat' even though I adore cats and kittens. But what is it about these soft toys that make people queue from 6 pm the day before? Mind you... the fast-food restaurant only opens at 7 am!

What is more ridiculous (than the queues) is the fact that most of the people in the queue are only buying them to sell off in the 'black market' at exorbitant rates! Just imagine paying $120 for something that originally costs $20, if you include the price of the meals. Plus the fact that people are actually fighting about these soft toys...

Somehow, it all doesn't make sense to me. We are really far from the 'gracious and uncorrupted' society image that people have thought of us to be...

its all about $$$

I made a trip to the Singapore Post Centre today to collect my key for the P.O Box which I applied for one week ago. Nevermind the lady at the Post Office last week told me I would get the response for my application on the very same day.

When it was my turn, I produced the billing invoice to the counter staff. I also requested to start my P.O. box service in February since more than half the month had gone by but I have not started using the service yet. It did not make sense for me to pay for the month of January since I am not exactly using the service. The counter staff explained to me that the rate I was paying has already been pro-rated. Yes, I do understand that because I can read English. What I needed to know was whether I can begin the service in February when I will actually be paying for something I AM USING.

Does it make sense to you to pay for something that you are not using?
